Spot Welding of Galvanized Sheet Metal Appliance Frames
At Blue Grass Manufacturing Co. of Lexington Inc., we can quickly adapt to serve customers' immediate spot welding and manufacturing requirements. These galvanized frames shown below, are a spot welded assembly used for the appliance industry. The frame measures 36" in length, 6" in width, 6" in thickness, and meets tolerances of ±0.0625". Spot welding galvanized steel in uniquely challenging because the zinc coating builds up on the resistance welding electrode, reducing the efficiency of the weld. To ensure a full strength weld, the electrode must be regularly dressed, removing the zinc build up.

When the customer contacted us regarding this project, we were given very little time to design and implement a manufacturing process to produce the assembly to customer specifications. Our experienced team has a diverse range of experience and can quickly develop custom manufacturing processes to meet a variety of needs. Operators and quality control personnel were trained to inspect the welds for any gaps or sign of weak welds and to verify that all frames met customer specifications. We produce between 50 and 250 of these spot welded frames per month with a typical lead time of one week.
